“YOU CAN DESIGN, CREATE, AND BUILD THE MOST WONDERFUL PLACE IN THE WORLD. BUT IT TAKES PEOPLE TO MAKE DREAMS BECOME REALITY “
MOHAMMED ALI
Traditionally it has been considered an exclusively male sporting practice, legally and culturally influenced by gender bias. The recognition of women’s rights has allowed that in recent decades there has been a notable increase in the presence of women in BOXE. We can confirm that boxing is one of the best forms of self-defense for women.
CLB promotes the practice of BOXING for both men and women since, in addition to being an effective fighting system, it optimizes the physical condition. BOXING, being a very aerobic sport, is ideal for all those who want to lose weight, feel more agile, define themselves muscularly, improve their reflexes and gain self-confidence.
The BOXING lessons, we carry out every day in morning, afternoon and evening sessions during STRIKING .
OUR LESSONS TAKE PLACE IN THE FOLLOWING FORM:
We begin by preparing our body for the training session with warm-up and stretching, rope, running, and physical conditioning exercises. Then we put on the bandages, gloves and perform a technical work and combination of blows, and then move on to the work of shooting the bag and / or sparring (combat). We conclude the session with a light stretching.
BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
Historians and connoisseurs of Jiu Jitsu tell that the origin of this martial art may come from India, where it was practiced by Buddhist monks. Created as a self-defense system, it is based on the imbalance and control of the opponent. With the expansion of Buddhism, Jiu Jitsu spread through Southeast Asia to China and then to Japan, where it evolved and gained popularity. At the end of the 19th century, some masters of Jiu Jitsu emigrated to different countries around the world to teach this style of fighting. Exactly like Jigoro Kano, the creator of Judo in 1882, or like his pupil Mitsuyo Maeda, also known as “Conde Koma”. Maeda, after traveling to different countries in Europe and America, arrived in Brazil in 1915. It was in Brazil, where the great Japanese master came into contact with Gastão Gracie.
“JIU JITSU IS NOT JUST WINNING A FIGHT, IT’S SOMETHING MORE THAN THAT. THE BENEFITS EXIST WITH REGARD TO ETHICAL AND MORAL CONDUCT. IT’S BALANCE “
RICKSON GRACIE
Father of eight children, Gastão soon became an enthusiast of this martial art style. Some time later, the eldest of his sons, Carlos, was also introduced to this discipline. After a lot of time spent training, Carlos was able to develop a complete and at the same time very effective fighting style. At the age of 19, Carlos and his family visited Rio de Janeiro for the first time, a city where he can train and fight with opponents much bigger and stronger than him. In 1925, he settled permanently in Rio, where he opened his first school called “Gracie Academy of Jiu Jitsu”. Since then, Carlos began to share his skills with his siblings by adapting them to their physical condition. Considering they weren’t very muscular fighters,
Once developed and perfected this particular fighting style, adapted to win against much stronger rivals physically, Carlos Gracie decided to verify its effectiveness by challenging several recognized fighters of the time, defeating them and thus demonstrating his superiority. It was for this type of events that the wrestlers of the time began to be interested in this new and effective style. The attention it aroused in other fighters was such that even from Japan they were interested in the situation in Brazil. By perfecting ground wrestling techniques and submissions day by day, they realized that this type of wrestling was moving further and further away from traditional Jiu Jitsu. For this reason, this fighting style began to be called Brazilian Jiu Jitsu .
BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU .
The BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU is practiced with a kimono and a belt of different colors, which represent the level of each student. The goal of the fight is to throw, control and subdue the opponent using joint palanches or strangulations.
CLB offers BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU lessons and recommends complementing it with Olympic Wrestling and Grappling lessons, as we consider that it is very important to have skills in both ground and standing wrestling.
BJJ, being at the same time an aerobic and anaerobic sport, will provide us with an increase in agility, elasticity, confidence, reflexes, balance, strength and endurance.
We give BJJ lessons every day in morning, afternoon and evening sessions. During the winter we fight mainly with the kimono. In summer, however, we reduce the hours of BJJ and increase those of GRAPPLING.
Our lessons take place in the following form:
We start by preparing our body for the training session with a warm-up and with different specific movements, we perform drills (repetitions), and then move on to one of our cardio or strength circuits. Then we start with the techniques and the various combinations. We conclude the session with the fight and finally, the stretching.
GRAPPLING
The origins of the hand-to-hand fight go back to the principle of the existence of the human being. Not exactly as we know it today (Olympic Wrestling – Wrestling), but with the same warrior spirit and the need to enhance the natural abilities of our body.
Currently, this style of hand-to-hand combat can be found in hundreds of places in the world and with hundreds of different characteristics. But all of these styles still have one thing in common; empower our body to get the most out of it.
“WHY SUFFER FROM VERTIGO, IF THE DANGER LIES ON THE GROUND?”
The Grappling and ‘a merger between Olympic Wrestling (Wrestling) and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a discipline in which we can apply all the techniques both sports. Just like in BJJ, the goal of the fight is to throw, control and subdue the opponent by using palanche to the joints or strangling.
CLB offers GRAPPLING lessons and advises complementary with Olympic Wrestling lessons as we consider that it is very important to have skills both in ground wrestling and standing wrestling. During the summer season we mainly do GRAPPLING. In winter, however, we reduce the hours of GRAPPLING and increase those of BJJ.
GRAPPLING LESSONS, WE PROVIDE THEM IN MORNING, AFTERNOON AND EVENING SESSIONS.
M.M.A. (MIXED MARTIAL ARTS)
This fighting style is composed of the combination of a series of martial arts and this fusion, currently represents the maximum perfection and efficiency for a fighter. This combination respects three very important concepts in the fight, which would be:
- Long and short distance of blows such as punches, elbows, knees and kicks (Boxing, Kick Boxing and Muay Thai)
- Body-to-body standing, with the possibility of making projections and exchanging shots (Olympic wrestling, Muay Thai)
- The ground fight, where we can control the opponent and subdue him in a clean and effective form (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Grappling)
* Ground and Pound should be mentioned in this distance which are the blows while fighting on the ground.
“THIS IS NOT A TECHNIQUE OR A SKILL. THIS IS NOTHING OF ANYTHING. EVERYTHING IS IN YOUR MIND. IT’S ABOUT HOW FAR YOU WANT TO GO ”
BJ PENN
For this reason, we at El Club de la lucha Barcelona believe that MMA is currently the most effective martial art , considering this combination of different fighting styles and martial arts.
The great expansion of this discipline came with the creation of the first UFC events. He proved to the whole world which martial art was the most effective. Shortly after, in fact, many wrestlers from other disciplines such as Boxing, Karate, Wrestling and Kick Boxing among others, became convinced of the importance of knowing how to master the techniques of the ground fight. For this reason and thanks to this evolution, nowadays there are fighters in all corners of the world with their own fighting style, but with notions of all these modes.
MMA, being at the same time an aerobic as well as anaerobic sport, will provide us with an increase in agility, elasticity, confidence, reflexes, balance, strength and incredible endurance. This type of resistance is comparable to that developed by Crossfit, which for this reason is fashionable in the world of professional MMA wrestlers. And also for this reason, at CLB we have added the functional exercises of the Crossfight session to our daily work.
MUAY THAI
The Muay Thai , also known as Thai Boxing, and ‘a Thai martial art where you fight standing using combined techniques of punches, elbows, kicks and knees.
Most kicking techniques are performed by hitting with the shin, although there are also front kicks where the foot is used. Hand-to-hand combat is also allowed, which takes the name of “clinching” and can be used to reduce the distance and impact of blows, but also for throws or sweeps.
“THE REAL CHAMPION IS THE ONE WHO CAN DEFEAT HIMSELF, THIS IS OUR WORST RIVAL, OUR MIND”
Nowadays, Muay Thai has become a national symbol of the history and identity of the Kingdom of Muay Boran, as well as a traditional martial art.
Muay Thai, being an aerobic sport, will increase our physical and cardiovascular endurance, agility, elasticity, reflexes, balance, safety and self-confidence. It also decreases stress. Muay Thai, thanks to the clinch, offers us an extra input of muscle toning, since it is a situation that requires technique, balance and strength.
THE LESSON OF MUAY THAI, WE REALIZE IT EVERY DAY IN MORNING, AFTERNOON AND EVENING SESSIONS IN THE STRIKING HOURS .
Our lessons take place in the following form:
We begin by preparing our body for the training session with warm-up and stretching, rope, running, and physical conditioning exercises. Then we wear bandages, gloves, knee pads, elbow pads, shin guards and perform a work of Muay Thai techniques and combinations of strokes, and then move on to shooting at the bag and / or sparring (combat). We conclude the session with a light stretching.
KICKBOXING
The Kickboxing and ‘a sport from Japanese source combat, in which you mix the techniques of the traditional Boxing with kicks from Karate, Kyokushin, Taekwondo, Kung Fu or Thai Boxing. Kickboxing is not considered a real training martial art, but more a combat sport.
“REAL STRENGTH DOES NOT ALWAYS SHOW WITH VICTORY. GET UP AND TRY IT AGAIN, DEMONSTRATING THE STRENGTH OF YOUR SPIRIT “
Kickboxing, being an aerobic sport, will increase our physical and cardiovascular endurance, agility, elasticity, reflexes, balance, safety and self-confidence. It also decreases stress.
THE KICKBOXING LESSON, WE REALIZE IT EVERY DAY IN MORNING, AFTERNOON AND EVENING SESSIONS IN STRIKING HOURS .
Our lessons take place in the following form:
We begin by preparing our body for the training session with warm-up and stretching, rope, running, and physical conditioning exercises. Then we put on bandages, gloves, shin guards and perform a work of Kickboxing techniques and combinations of shots, and then move on to shooting the bag and / or sparring (combat). We conclude the session with a light stretching.
WRESTLING
The fight ( wrestling ) and ‘a combat sport in which two fighters compete to win your opponent by using techniques and grappling with the objective to bring the ground back and immobilize him with both shoulders on the mat. In the event that no throws are made in the fight, the winner will be decided on the basis of a scoring system.
“THE GOLD MEDALS ARE NOT REALLY GOLD. THEY ARE MADE OF SWEAT, DETERMINATION AND SOMETHING DIFFICULT TO FIND CALLED COURAGE ”
DAN GABLE
The two main modes of WRESTLING are Freestyle Wrestling and Greco-Roman Wrestling, which form part of the competition program of the Olympic Games as part of a single discipline called Olympic Wrestling . The two modes are played separately while maintaining some differences, while sharing basic rules and points counting system. From these two disciplines, innumerable native fighting methods derive in many regions or countries of the world, each with its technical and historical variants and are very closely linked to the history and traditional folklore of the territories where they are practiced.
CLB offers WRESTLING lessons as we consider it a very important part of the hand-to-hand fight, essential for a part of the MMA since the projections, the entrances and the various techniques are a fundamental part of a Mixed Martial Arts match.
CROSSFIGHT
The CROSSFIGHT and ‘a physical conditioning system based on the exercises that vary constantly and functional movements performed at high intensity.
The goal of the CROSSFIGHT classes is primary human skills and abilities such as cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, muscular endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, coordination, balance and precision.

Pupils are exposed to different scenarios and combinations of movements with as much variety as possible, thus preparing them to adapt to unknown and unlikely circumstances.
CROSSFIGHT SESSIONS, ALSO KNOWN AS WOD (WORKOUT OF THE DAY), NORMALLY TAKE PLACE IN THE FOLLOWING FORM:
- AMRAP: (As Many Rounds As Possible) consists of making as many rounds as possible of a combination of exercises, in a predetermined period of time.
- EMOM: (Every Minute On the Minute) in this type of WOD we try to do a certain number of repetitions of one or several exercises in one minute and lasting as many minutes as possible. The time remaining between repetitions and the stroke of the minute is used as a rest. The EMOM ends at the end of the minutes set by the instructor.

“CHAMPIONS ARE NOT MADE IN THE GYM. THE SAMPLES ARE MADE FROM SOMETHING THAT THEY HAVE INSIDE. A DESIRE, A SOÑO, A VISION. “
MOHAMMED ALI
LUNEDÍ:
We fight hand-to-hand with or without kimono. During the winter season we fight with the kimono (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo). When it gets warmer, we do the same fighting techniques and styles, but without kimonos (Grappling and Wrestling).
Monday children’s lessons take place in the following form:
We start with the warm-up, we follow with different coordination and motor skills exercises, we continue by performing some fighting techniques and we conclude with a light fight and a final game.
WEDNESDAY:
We do techniques with the presence of strikes using arms and legs (Boxing, Kickboxing and Muay Thai).
Wednesday children’s lessons take place in the following form:
We start with the warm-up, we follow with different coordination and motility exercises, we continue by performing some technique of combination of strokes and we conclude with a circuit of physical-motor condition and a final game.
BENEFITS OF MARTIAL ARTS FOR CHILDREN:
Cardiorespiratory endurance:
The heart and lungs need to adapt when our bodies perform activities that require the movement of large muscle groups over prolonged periods of time. Doing so will ensure that the blood is distributed adequately and our body will recover from the effort made.
Muscle strength and endurance:
Muscle strength is the ability the muscle has to generate tension and overcome the opposite force. Muscle endurance is the ability of the muscle to maintain its contraction over a prolonged period of time.
Flexibility:
It is the ability that the joints have to make a movement with the greatest possible amplitude. It is not concerned with generating movement, but it facilitates it. It is convenient to start these activities in childhood and to maintain this habit throughout life.
Coordination:
It is the ability to use the senses, in particular sight and hearing, together with movement and the different parts of the body, to be able to move with precision and lightness. It should develop from childhood.
Aside from these advantages, we must mention the benefits in behavior and conduct, which children learn with us over time. Respect for peers, self-esteem, the desire to overcome oneself, self-control and healthy habits.
Note: On Wednesdays children do not fight as we believe that they are still small to carry out an activity that involves the use of strikes at this age.
