“From the first Punch to the champion belt: the anatomy of a champion.”
A Short Bio of Floyd Mayweather
Numbers can be very controversial in determining the best of all time. We can talk about the number of knockouts. Number of punches delivered and received. One can speak of the number of fights as well, or even the number of belt defenses. However, when you talk about Floyd Mayweather Jr., there’s a number that no one argues about: the millions of dollars that this unique fighter has raised along his career.
At first, of course, these numbers were not there. Although he came from a family of fighters, who had his father and uncle as champions, the life of the young Floyd Mayweather Jr. did not start surrounded by sport cars and mansions with huge swimming pools. His father made some wrong choices and ended up in prison. It was up to his uncle, the famous Black Mamba, to continue the training of young Floyd in his early and complicated moment of life. That time was when he met his first best friend: the punching bag. And they spent hours together, year after year.
Already grown up, Floyd seemed to have well incorporated the defensive tactical stance known as Philly Shell, which makes use of the famous Shoulder Roll technique. This type of technique yields powerful counterattacks, leaving the opponent exposed by unsuccessfully attempting to strike the face of a fighter who is apparently vulnerable. But Floyd’s face, known early in his career as “Pretty Boy Mayweather”, was hardly hit that way. And he had this nickname just for coming out almost unscathed from bruises on his face by adopting this stance.
Floyd Mayweather 96’s Olympics
Floyd had a relative success in the 96’s Olympics, winning a bronze medal, but lost to Bulgarian Serafim Todorov in the semifinals. This would be the last time we would see him leaving a ring without the victory. Floyd began to tread the path that would make him known to this day: the path of money, when he became a professional fighter. That means even more time training and learning with his closest friend, the punching bag. In his personal race for the post of great fighter, Floyd was already more than advanced. However, came a time when he started to aim for another title: the celebrity.
Floyd Mayweather Pretty Boy
That was when Pretty Boy officially changed his nickname, being called Floyd “Money” Mayweather. From there, our fighter paraded in expensive sports cars, taking photos in their mansions, and, mostly, showing a lot, but lots of live money around him every time he appeared in the media. This brought fame, but not necessarily fans. Many people say that Floyd’s arrogant posture made the spectators watch his fights simply because they were anxious to see him lose.
Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao.
Therefore, to become The Best Ever, he just had to beat the best there was: Manny Pacquiao. It was called the fight of the century. Despite of the detractors, Floyd keeped training more hours with the one that was always by his side. After months with the punching bag – his companion, he finally defeated Pacquiao. Just after that, defeated biggest names like Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley e Canelo Alvarez. UFC star Connor Mcgregor was just a bonus, in a fight where Floyd secured millions not only for him, but also for the next generations of his family. After all, it seems like the time spent with the punching bag payed off. A lot.

Meet the powerful Muay Thai in Barcelona.
From Bangkok to BCN: the art of eight weapons.
An ancient martial art from Thailand, Muay Thay is powerful. Many professional fighters choose MT as an option for close, medium, and long range combat, cause it really works. It´s the tough fighting style of the “eight weapons”, combining your pairs of feet, fists, elbows and knees to attack with devastating blows. In other words: MT it’s a goddamn complete martial art: MMA fighters can confirm this.
As self defense, it’s an excellent option cause gives you a complete repertory of fast and powerful moves, each one strong enough to knock down a foe. Plus, you got nice skills in clinching, defending against kicks, punches and a good cardio. Muay represents power and one of the most complete martial arts you can train.
As Cardio, Muay is even better and places huge stress on your cardiopulmonary systems. With continued practice, your body will adapt to the demands of the sport, and improved cardiovascular performance is one of the payoffs. Just take some time to adapt the workout according to your level of fitness when you’re starting out. There is absolutely no shame in taking a break or modifying a drill to make it fit for you.

The majority of us accumulate a fair amount of stress during the day. Having an outlet for that stress feels fantastic and can work wonders for your mental and physical health. Let’s face it, when you’re pissed off with something(and there’s always plenty reasons to be), hitting something just feels good. Due to the fast-paced nature of the sport, you can’t trouble yourself with worry while training.
You’ll get hit in the face or mess up the drill you’re working on. Practicing a martial art allows you to focus on yourself and nothing else. I believe doing something regularly that detaches you from the daily grind helps you become a happier and more carefree individual. With so many reasons and an excellent martial art like MT, we hope you come and start soon.

10 very good reasons to enter the ring and box.
Every person who wants to be in shape, improve conditioning and cardio, can be considered a fighter. Well, there are several good news about boxing that we´d love to share with you, and probably show the potential of this surprisingly fun workout.
For now, let´s ring the bell and start the first round with 10 very good reasons for you to try boxing, by El Club de la Lucha Barcelona, the best gym to practice boxing in Barcelona:
1 – It´s not so hard:
You don’t need to be a Mohammed Ali, or a Mike Tyson to learn the basics. With a little effort, and a good trainer, almost everyone is able to practice. Man or woman, old or young, tall or short, it really doesn’t matter. The most important thing is your willpower.
2 – Never boring:
Boxing is really, really fun. Most people that puts on a pair of gloves for the first time enjoy the experience. Hitting the focus mitts becomes a game and people savor the challenge. There so many interesting skills to master that boxing never becomes boring.
3 – The Inspiring Challenge
You can workout and watch good boxers train at the same time with you. You get to witness the impossible everyday in the gym and you’re constantly inspired to push yourself to new levels of performance. Boxing is a unique challenge, you fight your own limits. And what better than to be motivated in one of the hardest sports ever?
4 – Very relaxing
You sweat a LOT. You punch the bag. Attack, defense, and lots of cardio training making all your problems go away. Boxing is an excellent therapy for the body and the mind. Boxing is a mental fight against whatever you want, and believe me, you can always win in the end.
5 – Excellent workout
Boxing targets the entire body, burn lots of fat and makes your heart pump. In every move, every punch, you feel more and more alive. As a great workout choice, boxing goes head-to-head with other types of cardio like running and cycling. And for most people, a lot more fun.
6 – Upper-body cardio
Think about it: most cardio focuses on the lower body. With boxing, your primary moves come from your upper half, making it a great cross-training option when you want to bust a running or cycling rut, or knock out some cardio that won’t tax your legs too much.
7 – Safe and complete
Forget tire flipping and box jumping—boxing can be a safer (yet just as effective and demanding) alternative to some of the riskier heart-pounding workouts out there. You move all your body, and it gets you in shape faster than anything.
8 – Improve your rhythm
Attack, defense, moving your feet and knees. You have to learn the correct order, find the “momentum”. It´s not just about doing, but WHEN you do. To understand the right moment to make a choice, make all your body work as a team. No other sport training solely focuses on improving that rhythm, and coordination.
9 – Sharpen your mind
It´s about body and mind. In boxing, your mind has to be as quick as your body to prevent being hit.Unlike any other sport, you’re thinking of offense and defense at the same time. For athletes, or anyone who loves the sport, boxing is a character-building process that takes mental toughness and overcoming fears.
10 – Earn Confidence
In the movies, Rocky Balboa teaches a beautiful lesson about willpower, resilience and moral strength. That´s all based in real emotions. Boxing is a great confidence booster, molding fighters out of average people. After boxing, other challenges in life seem much more manageable. Boxing improves your attitude, confidence, and outlook on life.
We hope you are at least curious about boxing. In this case, talk to us right now and put the gloves on! Come to El Club de La Lucha Barcelona, and discover the great achievements boxing can offer you. Here is the place for Boxing in Barcelona.
